And we’re still talking about it.
We’ve seen whales before.
But nothing — absolutely nothing — prepared us for what we experienced whale watching in Puerto Vallarta.
Multiple humpback whales breaching.
Over and over again.
Not distant little splashes on the horizon.
FULL breaches.
Massive whales launching completely out of the water while everyone onboard collectively lost their minds.
There were moments where nobody even spoke because we were all too stunned trying to process what we’d just witnessed.
It honestly felt surreal.
The guides from Vallarta Adventures were incredible — educational, respectful of the animals, and genuinely excited alongside everyone onboard.
And that excitement becomes contagious fast.
Every direction you looked, people had huge smiles on their faces.
Because deep down, moments like this reconnect you with something bigger.
Nature showing off.
And reminding you how small — and lucky — we really are.
Whale season in The Bay of Banderas starts in early December and goes through March. If you are visiting during this time we HIGHLY recommend it. There are different options for boats such as smaller, faster boats that have no food/beverage option and then the larger “Party” type boats that have a nice food offering. We were on the larger boat and the funny thing was that we were all in the same area and the smaller faster boats took off and missed all of this breaching so it’s not always better to be in what may be perceived as the one that can get to the whales quicker.
